Lighting – An Integral Part Of Interior Design

Introduction

As the days get shorter and the nights draw in we start to ask ourselves how important good lighting really is for our eyes.

People often ignore the lighting when it comes to renovating their houses. It is important that the lighting is correctly positioned in the room. Correct lighting can emphasize the paints, floors and other accessories of your home.

Light is a key element in our everyday lives. It guides us throughout the day, nudging us to wake in the morning and lulling us to sleep at night. Lighting may not seem the most important aspect but it is one of the most crucial design elements in design. It helps create and change moods in a space.

Lighting is an important aspect of interior design as it enhances the aesthetic appeal and creates the mood and ambiance of a living space.

Light is the main element that gives the room a special look and transforms it into a seamless combination of functionality and style. Lighting can make or break the ambiance of a roomHence proper lighting is an important element of decorating your homes.

Lighting fixtures that illuminate a room creates a safe and comfortable environment besides adding style to the interior décor. Light is the main element that gives the room a special look and transforms it into a seamless combination of functionality and style.

Importance of lighting in interior design:

All rooms need a mixture of lighting, be it ambient or simple background illumination or accent lighting to highlight an exceptional feature.

A successful scheme can enhance or reinterpret a space, it can also support brand values, enhance productivity, improve well being, provide drama and dictate ambience. Even the dullest of spaces can be improved by a well-considered lighting scheme. Good lighting assures a warm, inviting and functional atmosphere in your home.

Light is the source of life, giving us needed energy and uplifting our spirits. Without light, life stops. Many homes are gloomy simply because they don’t have enough lighting fixtures. Even a house with lots of windows cannot guarantee sunny weather. But with artificial lighting, properly arranged, your rooms can shine brightly. Without lighting, there would be no color, and when the lighting is dim, it dampens the vitality of a room and depresses your spirit. Balance plays an important part in the lighting of the home.

Good light quality is based on the balance between three pillars:

  • Human needs
  • Architectural considerations
  • Energy efficiency

    Human needs

It has been proven more than once that the quality of light in a building affects the people in it. Thus, the satisfaction and productivity of an office employee can be positively influenced by a well-designed lighting plan. Owners or managers have the potential to add value and reduce costs by investing in good, qualitative lighting. It is no secret that people are attracted to well-lit public facilities, commercial complexes or parks. Good lighting improves the mood and desirability of such spaces and can greatly contribute to a sense of well-being.

    Architectural considerations

Evolutions in techniques and technology have made the role of a lighting specialist or lighting designer crucial for the success of an architectural project. The possibilities have become endless. However, seamless integration into modern architecture becomes more complex with the day and requires knowledge. Lighting design has become a creative extension of architecture. The main objective of lighting in an architectural design can be deduced to compliment the present shapes and colors.

    Energy efficiency

We are aware that energy costs and efficiency today are more important than ever. In each project, one should aim for a result with a small ecological footprint and strong performance in terms of sustainability and energy consumption. Light control is a way to make your lighting ‘perform’ better on these elements. By using dimmers and (intelligent) controls, for instance, you can enlighten a space to the task that is performed in that location. Integration with other ventilation or airco technologies can also play a role in this.

“It is the light that first enables “WHAT YOU SEE?”

Utilizing the right type of lighting at correct place is not less tricky than any magic to see your home shine brightly.

Lighting fixtures illuminate our treasured objects and highlights our favorite colors, as well as affects our mood, performance, and mental health on a daily basis.

Lightis the source of life, giving us needed energy and uplifting our spirits.

Types of lighting to create beautiful interior designs:

  • Ambient lightingAmbient lighting is the most common source of illumination in the home. For example, ceiling down lights. Generally, these are a common source of lighting thought the bedrooms and main living areas of a home. They provide a great light span and LED downlights last much longer, are low maintenance and are energy efficient.2. Task lightingTask lighting is to illuminate a specific task or activity. For example, reading or working. Lamps are a great source of task lighting,

Another form of task lighting is using illuminating wall lights in bathrooms. Bathrooms are a perfect example where we need to use task lighting to complete daily activities. Be mindful that you want to make sure in a bathroom the globe selected is as close to natural light as possible. If the glow is too warm or too cool, you won’t have an honest light source in the space you need it the most.

    3. Accent lighting

  • Accent lighting, in other words is a form of decorative lighting to some degree. This type of lighting is used to highlight artwork, paintings, feature walls, or furniture. Another example of accent lighting is used on stair cases.
    1. Decorative lightingThis element of design is what they call “the jewellery of the home”, this is where you can go crazy with style, colour and design. Its completely YOUR Style, YOUR Design choice and YOUR Color pallet! They do not have any connection to ambient lighting, therefore cannot be used for every day lighting source.

In these days of austerity plus relative stress and anxiety about having debt, a lot of people balk resistant to the idea of using a credit card in order to make acquisition of merchandise or pay for a vacation, preferring, instead just to rely on a tried and trusted means of making payment – cash. However, if you possess the cash available to make the purchase fully, then, paradoxically, this is the best time to be able to use the credit card for several motives.
