Murals have been there on walls and ceilings throughout the world for as long as there have been people on Earth. People scratched them, carved them, etched them and painted them. The history of mural painting is rich and varied, from the prehistoric cave paintings at Sulawesi, Indonesia; the Chauvert, Niaux and Lascaux caves in France; to the celebratory and ceremonial murals of ancient Egypt, Rome, Mesopotamia, and India.The Mural Painting or artwork is painted or applied directly on walls or other permanent surface of interior and exterior spaces,ranging from palaces,temples,churches,to museums and galleries,libraries to restaurants that also is a form of valuable testimony of life from the prehistoric time to today. In our more contemporary era, murals have found their way onto a large variety of surfaces. It can be on the inside of buildings or outside for public display incorporating the architecture of the building to bring out the painting and the building as one.Mural painting is revolutionary and proves that walls and ceilings do not have to be plain. Now, wall paintings can be shown by transferring the wall art into a poster paper canvas and then paste on a wall. The art or photographic image gives the illusion of a realistic scene on the wall.Murals are also a communication tool. You can use a wall painting to communicate the message that you wish the public to know. The size of the painting will attract the attention of the public which makes it an effective way of communicating a message.
Murals affect the attitudes of the people passing by them. Everyone gets their understanding of the painting, and they therefore add aesthetic value to the areas that they are put up. They can be a tourist attraction that brings improvement to the areas.
